Therapy Services Offered
Marriage & Couples Therapy
Couples counseling is a process through which I work with a couple (who may be engaged, dating, married or partnered) to identify areas of conflict and/or aspects of their relationship they would like to change. We can examine how the couple's individual backgrounds, beliefs and behaviors may be impacting their relationship, and address any immediate problems. We then develop strategies for improving the relationship to the couple's mutual long-term satisfaction.
Some of the issues addressed in Couples Therapy are: feelings of aloneness or loneliness, constant arguing, unemployment, finances, blended families, child-rearing conflicts, extramarital affairs, addiction to pornography, loss of libido or unsynchronized sexual rhythms.
The pattern of interaction can be revealed in the therapy room quickly as one starts to observe how each one thinks, feels and reacts to one another. A good couples therapist is alert and consciously aware of non-verbal cues, unexpressed emotions, and the meaning of the words one utters. How one relates to another in private life is enacted in the therapy room. The main source of the discontent and the root cause of the relationship dysfunction are detected and examined. Once identified and understood, the couple can start to work on salvaging or improving their relationship and fulfill their dreams of closeness, love and passion.

Family Therapy
Is your loved one acting strange, or abusing alcohol or drugs? Is he or she acting out, depressed, self-cutting, suicidal, anorexic or bulimic? Has he or she just "come out" as gay, bisexual or transgender? Has there been ongoing conflict or excessive arguments between family members? Have divorce proceedings or blending of two families seriously affected the children?
Individual, family or external changes affect the family dynamics and the functioning of the whole family. Old and comfortable family roles are threatened, behaviors and modes of communication change, and they can be very upsetting. When one or more family members cannot take the stressful, energy-depleting situation anymore, communication breaks down, and one may decide to disengage and totally cut him or herself off emotionally. In family therapy, resistance to engagement is understood and melted down to allow open contact and exchange. In the therapy room, circular patterns of behavior are directly observed and their causes explored. Hope is experienced leading to new ways of genuine, loving contact - and you can have the family you wish you had.

Sex Therapy
Depression, anxiety or neurotic tendencies could be deeply rooted from frustrated, ungratified sexual desires. Erectile dysfunction, vaginal anesthesia, premature ejaculations and an inability to surrender to the full orgasm reflex are manifestations of sexual energy stasis or obstruction. Its causes could be traced to distant, unsuspected trauma. Using the principles and techniques of orgone therapy, total body-psyche functioning can be revived that will lead to a gratifying love life.

Trauma-based Therapy
As a victim of domestic violence or abuse, you may be experiencing the effects of trauma and may not even realize it. Trauma can refer to wounds to the body and soul. This causes long-term distressing and disabling mental and emotional symptoms that interfere with one's life. Using time-tested methods to process and work through the trauma, we can identify and solve problems in a goal-oriented way that focuses on the present as well as the future, and allows you to put the past behind you. You can reclaim the right to live in freedom and safety, and start on a new path to a happier, more fulfilling life, free of the fear and anxiety of the past.

Psychotherapy Groups
Group therapy is a process in which I meet with a small group of people (generally six to ten) face-to-face to discuss an issue with which all of them are struggling. Groups may address grief/bereavement, chronic depression or anxiety, anger management, or recovering from domestic violence or childhood sexual abuse, etc. During the group session, members are encouraged to share and explore their feelings, struggles and behaviors; and to listen to differing viewpoints or share coping strategies, and receive encouragement from each other. Group therapy can provide a powerful opportunity for support and growth with others facing similar issues in a safe and supportive environment.
It's not unusual to feel uneasy or embarrassed when talking about our concerns and problems with people we meet for the first time. The thought of sharing intimate details about one's life can be frightening and challenging. However, within an atmosphere of acceptance, we can develop a sense of trust and discover that we are not alone in our quest for a better life.
Bring your questions, your reluctance, your dreams and ambivalence. We will transcend our life struggles together. We will make valuable human connections and come away with new perspectives and renewed inspiration. Come, join us in our journey to feel connected to something larger than ourselves.
Please visit Therapy Groups for the current group schedule, and to learn about new groups being formed.
